Obstetrics and Gynaecology
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBG) specializes in comprehensive women’s health care, focusing on pregnancy, childbirth, reproductive health, infertility, and diseases of the female genital tract. The department is dedicated to providing high-quality care through modern diagnostic tools, advanced surgical expertise, evidence-based medical treatment, and compassionate patient-centered services.
Our department offers both preventive and curative services with special emphasis on maternal and neonatal health, safe motherhood, cancer screening, infertility management, and minimally invasive gynaecological surgeries.
The OBG department caters to one of the largest patient populations with updated diagnostic and therapeutic facilities. It runs out-patient and in-patient services, conducts normal and high-risk deliveries, and performs elective as well as emergency gynaecological and obstetric procedures 7 days a week with state-of-the-art equipment.
The department is managed by highly qualified and experienced faculty members actively involved in clinical practice, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training programs, and research activities. Faculty also participate regularly in regional, national, and international conferences to update their knowledge and skills.
The OBG Department is a post-graduate teaching institute affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, with a strong vision of academic excellence, research advancement, and quality patient care.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students are given hands-on training to manage both routine and complicated OBG cases confidently in their professional careers.

5. Colposcopy Unit for cervical cancer screening and preventive oncology
6. Endoscopy Unit – Laparoscopy & Hysteroscopy with video recording system
7. Ultrasound Scanning Facilities – ultrasound, Doppler studies
8. Infertility Clinic with IUI and ART support facilities
9. Family Planning Clinic with sterilization and contraceptive services
10. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in collaboration with Pediatrics
11. Library & e-learning facilities for students and faculty

Details Of The Curriculum For UG
The curriculum for undergraduates (UG) is followed as per NMC norms and includes theory classes,seminars, small group discussions, self-directed learning, clinical postings, and skills lab teaching. Students undergo periodic formative and summative assessments.
- Exposure to antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal care
- Training in basic gynaecological examination and minor procedures
- Emphasis on preventive care, family planning, and community health
Details Of The PG Program
The department offers comprehensive postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, leading to the MD (OBG) degree. The department has an annual intake of 3 seats as per NMC guidelines, with admission based on NEET-PG
The course duration is three years, during which students receive:
- Clinical training in managing normal and high-risk pregnancies
- Exposure to all elective and emergency gynaecological surgeries
- Hands-on operative training in laparoscopy and hysteroscopy
- Active participation in seminars, journal clubs, case discussions, interdepartmental meetings
- Research methodology training with mandatory dissertation work
- Participation and presentation in regional and national conferences
