About The Department
Our outpatient department (OPD) is located in the ground floor of the hospital building, an average of 100-150 patients attend the OPD.
Outpatient services include: General antenatal and Gynecology care, Family welfare clinic, Infertility clinic, High risk obstetrics care, Menopause clinic, Adolescent clinic and Cancer screening. All OPD procedures are done here.
The labour ward complex is situated in the first floor with well-equipped labour rooms attached with operation theatre inclusive of 21 beds labour room, 2 beds in eclampsia room, 5 beds in Obstetrics ICU, 7 beds in NICU, 3 beds in septic labour room, 5 beds in early labour and 2 beds in postnatal observation.
OBG wards have total of 90 beds with 40 beds for antenatal, 35 beds for Gynaecology and 15 beds for post-partum care.
Our state of Art Theater complex is well equipped with 24×7 anaesthesia facilities. We have all modernized equipment for minimal access surgery. Laparoscopy, Hysteroscopy, Tubal microsurgery, Abdominal and Vaginal hysterectomy, Medical and Surgical abortions, Emergency Laparotomy and Cancer surgeries are done here.
ACADEMICS:
We have intake of 150 MBBS students & 3 post graduate students per year. We have dedicated Lecture & Clinical training for undergraduate students. They are exposed to skills lab training. They are encouraged to improve knowledge through Symposium, case presentations and integrated lectures.
The post graduate students, apart from regular lecture and clinical classes participate in Journal club, research work. They participate in paper presentations, publications, conferences, CME’S and integrated lectures.

Dr. S.Sampath Kumari Professor & HOD - MBBS., MD., DGO
Prof. Dr. S. Sampathkumari, Professor & HoD – OG, has had more than 3 decades service in the TN Govt Medical Service at various levels and hospital settings, finally retired as the Director i/c, Institute of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Madras Medical College, Chennai. She was also instrumental in the upgradation of many GMCs into Post Graduate learning centres. She has won many awards and laurels, such as Best Teacher Award, Best Doctor Award from the Government as well as many service organisations. Notable among them are: Women Empowerment Award, Best Community Service award, Adolescent Health Activities Award from iCoNgo – International Confederation of NGOs, National and State IMA Awards. She was the President, OG Board of Studies, between 2014-19 and Senate Member from 2022 at TN Dr MGR Medical University. She has also guided a few Ph. Ds during this period. Becoming an All India Committee Chairperson for Adolescent Health Activities of Federation of OG Societies of India (FOGSI) in 2016 was an important step in her service to the society, served as it’s All India Vice President in 2022-24 and is actively involved as Managing Committee Member in OGSSI, Chennai Menopause Society, Founder Secretary of Tamilnadu Federation of OG (TNFOG) and Indian Medical Association; Chennai South as the Chairperson of Women’s Wing. She has been elected as the Member of Oncology Committees of Asia Oceania Federation of OG Societies (AOFOG) and South Asia Federation of OGS (SAFOG) and Member, Adolescent Health Committee of Federation of International OGS (FIGO). These are but a few of her commitments to serve the society at large, more importantly in the realm of health care for the women and it’s improvement by constantly bringing in newer and innovative methods in the treatment. She has pioneered in employing newer technologies and methods in medical education and has contributed to GCPRs (Good Clinical Practices), articles in indexed journals and chapters in OG text books as author and Editor for the UGs & PGs.
