Our Hospital was established in the year 2007 as a prerequisite to starting Sri Muthukumaran Medical College. Today, it stands tall as a six storeyed Multispeciality tertiary care hospital, serving to the medical needs of not only the people of the surrounding areas but also to people from various parts of the district. All medical and surgical specialities with duly qualified doctors function efficiently under one roof providing the best medical care to the poor and the needy. Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Hospital is now a NABH accredited and KAYAKALP certified hospital.

24 X 7 EMERGENCY CARE – Manned by expert doctors and Para medical staff 24×7 to attend to any health emergency.

CT SCAN & MRI – Best imaging facilities including a 192 slice Siemens CT unit, latest Siemens 1.5 T MRI, digital X-ray and Mammography. The department offers patients real-time imaging services at an affordable cost. Besides offering routine imaging and contrast investigations, special investigations like coronary CT, HSG, musculoskeletal ultrasonography and various imaging guided procedure are performed.

AMBULANCE SERVICE – Fully air conditioned Ambulance fitted with lifesaving resuscitation units providing service round the clock.

BLOOD BANK – There is a well-equipped Blood Bank in this Hospital approved by the Drugs Controller of India, vide license No. 308/28C dt.2/2/2010, renewed in 2nd February 2020. It is established in an area of 5000 sq.ft. with ample space for Blood Collection, Storage, Processing and Distribution of whole blood and its components. The Blood Bank is being manned by qualified and trained Medical Officer assisted by Technicians and Staff Nurses.

LAB SERVICE – Round the clock centralized lab equipped with state of the art equipment’s, skilled technicians provide on time diagnostic services and expert interpretations from experienced Biochemists, Pathologists and Microbiologists in correlation with the clinicians aid in the speedy diagnosis and treatment of the patients to their utmost satisfaction.

CENTRAL RESEARCH FACILITY (CRF) – NABL accredited CRF is an ICMR approved center for RT-PCR testing for SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The Department of Dentistry in Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Hospital and Research Institute is a branch of medicine that consist of the study, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity  commonly in the dentition, it also involves the oral mucosa and of adjacent and related structures and tissues particularly in the maxillofacial region. The dental treatment carried out in our dental department comprises of restoration of teeth, extraction or surgical removal of teeth, scaling and root planning, endodontic root canal treatment, cosmetic dentistry, full mouth rehabilitation with removal, fixed partial dentures and implants. Precancerous, oral cancer screening and oral biopsy are also carried out in our department.

The vision of Respiratory Medicine Department is excellence in evidence-based care for all patients. The department has well qualified and dedicated Pulmonologists who strive to provide care of the highest standard.

The aim of the department is to provide compassionate care for a successful patient outcome. We also update our knowledge on latest research and available care to meet the growing needs of people.

The department provides comprehensive consultation, evaluation and treatment of the whole range of respiratory diseases. In addition to daily outpatient and inpatient services, the department conducts weekly speciality clinics for patients suffering from Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD), Smoking Cessation and Allergy Clinics. This has led to a steady flow of patients to the hospital’s general and critical care wards (Respiratory ICU).

The Pulmonology department is equipped with a DOTS laboratory for the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP). It offers an isolation ward and DOTS Plus services to cure patients with Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and prevent its propagation. The unit is collaborating with the district TB health society and is functioning effectively with free supply of drugs given under the national programme.

The unit also does Allergen tests in collaboration with the Department of Dermatology and Department of ENT. Besides, Physiotherapy and Pulmonary rehabilitation is available for patients with chronic respiratory diseases like COPD and ILD.

The department has a research laboratory to conduct therapeutic trials. It has adult bronchoscopes and video bronchoscopes that are often used to teach postgraduate students.
