About The Department

The Department of Biochemistry is the heart of the medical institutions and provides feather to the institute by offering tremendous potential in basic as well as applied medical sciences. The Department of Biochemistry at Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Hospital and Research Institute was established in 2010.  Biochemistry, the sole of medicine is an excellent and essential component of curriculum for all categories of health professionals. The Department has a well-equipped student lab, two demonstration halls and a seminar cum library room well equipped with textbooks and reputed journals. The Department has qualified, well experienced and passionate faculty who are committed to inspire the students in academics as well as research. The department trains the students in a clinical oriented manner so that they can apply their knowledge for patient care and to prepare for competitive exams. The faculties achieved many awards and prizes in various conferences and academic forum. Our department faculties are actively involved in various scientific societies at national and international level.

Diagnostics

Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory

Clinical Biochemistry tests comprises over one third of all hospital laboratory investigations. Clinical biochemistry is the branch of laboratory medicine in which chemical and biochemical methods are applied to the study of disease while in theory this embraces all non-morphological studies, in practice it is usually, though not exclusively, confined to studies on blood and urine because of the relative ease in obtaining such specimens although analysis are made on other body fluids such as pleural, gastric and cerebrospinal fluid.

Equipments

Our clinical Biochemistry Laboratory is equipped with the following instruments providing 24 hours patients care services,Fully automated chemistry analyzer : Thermofisher – Kone Lab-20

  • Fully automated immunoassay system: MiniVidas
  • Semi automated analyzer: Erba Chem 7 and Merilyzer
